Selecting a school is a crucial decision for your child’s life. This is because it prepares the educational base for your child. The fact is that every parent wants their child to get the best education. In order to find the educational institution that offers the best school syllabus in India, one should do a lot of home work while considering several factors in addition to affordability.
Gone are the days when the choice of syllabus was limited to just the state board or the Central Board of Secondary Education. In recent times, there is a wide range of options to include Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and The International Baccalaureate (IB)/International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) curricula.
Although you might be clear about the choice of curriculum for your child, there are certain points that should be considered before making a choice. Here is a brief description of different types of curriculum which includes the State syllabus, National syllabus and International school syllabus in India to help you make the right choice for your child. This way, you can wave off the schools that do not follow the desired syllabus from the list.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is the most popular and most common educational board which is considered as one of the best school syllabus in India at the national level. They prepare the primary school syllabus and secondary school syllabus for classes KG to 12th. The schools affiliated to CBSE have the same curriculum throughout the country. Also, their exams are conducted at the same time all over India. CBSE features a national curriculum. This way, it is beneficial for parents moving to different parts of the country due to transfers and all.
Their children will follow the same syllabus on switching to another school affiliated with CBSE, irrespective of the state or city they move to within India.
Adding further, most of the Indian competitive exams, like the All Indian Pre-Dental/Pre-Medical exams are based on CBSE syllabus.
The SSC Board is offered by various Indian states including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Madhya Pradesh. The State Board is quite popular in the state of Maharashtra. The syllabus, however, depends on the state where the school is located.
Usually, the state syllabus is considered easier as contrasted to other Indian syllabuses, like ICSE and CBSE. It is a common trend among most parents to switch them from CBSE/ICSE to the State Syllabus in an effort to help the children get better scores in high school.
The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) was formed in India in the year 1986. Their curriculum is followed by numerous educational institutions. Students prepare for All India Secondary School of Examination (AISSE) for class 10th and 12th.
ICSE is the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education. Although the syllabus has an international touch, it is mostly followed in India.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program was founded by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). This is a non-profit educational organization that is based I Geneva, Switzerland. This International proffers high quality programs of international education to a worldwide community of schools.
Furthermore, it has recognition by schools and colleges at an international level. The IB program is considered as one of the best school syllabus in india at international level. It offers three programs for students between age group 3-19 years, as mentioned below:
Adding further, the schools recognized by the International Baccalaureate Organization along with the ones offering the IB curriculum are referred as the IB World Schools.
At present, there are 84 IB World Schools running in India that provide IB Diploma, including The American Embassy School in New Delhi and the Canadian International School in Bangalore, Karnataka.
IGCSE is a globally recognized qualification with worldwide credibility and acceptance. The International General Certificate Sec. Ed. is recognized by universities and colleges in the commonwealth countries. Usually, the IGCSE program in India is offered by schools with an international outlook.
IGCSE is a two-year program that starts at the Class 9 level. Students, who have completed their early schooling from any other board up to the class 9 level, can join this program for further education.
Besides, any student who has completed the IGCSE for any +2 level qualifications, including class 12 ICSE/CBSE or any other international pre-university program, such as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IDBP), and A/AS Level & Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) UK, and Advanced Placement Diploma (US).
Here are some other considerations to select a school for your child in India.
